Japanese Swords

KATANA - long, curved blade that came into widespread use in early MUROMACHI period (1392-1572)WAKIZASHI - the standard short sword of the MOMOYAMO & EDO periods (16th - mid 19th centuries). Together they were worn as a DAISHO (big-small) pair during MOMOYAMA period. ( schedule an appointment for special period swords. They are rare and very sharp so we do not display them to the public. Vintage Textiles:

Arise gallery has the largest collection of antique Japanese textiles on the East Coast. There are over 10,000 kimono including wedding kimono, children's, men's and women's formal and everyday wear. Short jackets called Haori feature surprise linings that tell stories and legends or sometimes have been painted to order for the patron. In the gallery you can see dozens of ways to decorate using Obi, the beautiful embroidered and woven sashes for kimono.
